Only two mouse clicks away from the hard drive: Siemens VDO presents a straightforward archiving solution for digital tachograph data

Regensburg, June 12, 2007

Siemens VDO makes it easier for operators of small fleets and individual drivers to convert to the digital tachograph (DTCO). To enable them to fulfill their legal obligation to store tachograph data, the company has developed TIS-Compact plus – an archiving solution that is as straightforward as it is inexpensive – especially for these customers, who require almost no IT knowledge to use it. Fleet operators who would like to use DTCO data for fleet management can still obtain the two programs TIS-Web and TIS-Office from the supplier. Users of the entry-level solution TIS-Compact plus can upgrade at any time and thus start more professional data management.

The procedures in commercial vehicle fleets changed significantly with the advent of the digital tachograph. Whereas a nail on the wall or a large desk drawer used to suffice to meet the legal requirements for archiving diagram disks, today the digital DTCO data must be electronically stored. Just as back in the days of analog tachographs, tachograph market leader Siemens VDO now provides a series of intelligent analysis instruments for recording, processing and evaluating vehicle data, as well as driving and rest times. Now, the company is extending its range by a solution for entry-level customers, which is as inexpensive as it is easy to use, enabling newcomers to fulfill their obligation and store data safely without special IT knowledge being necessary. For these customers, Siemens VDO has developed the program TIS-Compact plus, with which they can store and visualize the tachograph data as easily as photos from a digital camera.

TIS-Compact plus is suitable for fleets of up to 10 vehicles. The program contains self-explanatory software that can be installed on the office computer with only a few mouse clicks, as well as the Siemens VDO download key. This universal memory stick is configured once and then inserted in the digital tachograph interface, where it automatically reads out the data that were pre-determined for archiving. The key then downloads all the information for an individually programmable period or for the whole period since the last download from the unit's mass memory, and if desired also from the driver card. When the download key is connected to the computer, the data are automatically displayed in a monthly calendar of the TIS-Compact program. A further mouse click then leads to archiving, with which every forwarding company has already met its legal obligations.

The fleet manager can have the driving hours, working and resting periods of the employees displayed and printed for every working day at the touch of a button. This does justice to the requirement of making the data accessible to employees. On request, the software can also generate a speed profile of the last 24 driving hours, which can be used to analyze driving performance. In addition, the system reminds the fleet manager that a download is due. The data can also be transferred to other Office applications and then represented in tabular form, for example.

Just like all solutions from Siemens VDO, TIS-Compact plus is integrated into a modular concept. And if someone wants to make a more thorough analysis over and above just archiving, the program can be upgraded to TIS-Web or TIS-Office at any time. Then, all the data from analog and digital tachographs are not only be saved on an Internet server or on a computer in the fleet manager’s office, they are evaluated as well.
