Siemens VDO presents new download solutions and archive software for digital tachograph (DTCO) data

Frankfurt, September 12, 2006

Since the introduction of digital tachographs, more and more vehicle fleets have been confronted with analysing and archiving electronic data. Siemens VDO, the tachograph market leader, will have a series of new additional download solutions on show at the Automechanika 2006 in Frankfurt: an innovative download terminal, the Siemens VDO DTCO workshop download service and TIS Compact. With these additional systems, both drivers and managers of all sizes of fleets can now comply with their legal obligations regarding electronic data storage more easily. This means that in the future, the vehicle will not even need to be physically present at the head office or even in the same country.

Now that digital tachographs are in the market, the procedures in commercial vehicle fleets have changed significantly because digital tachographs data is now stored electronically. Siemens VDO now provides a series of intelligent analysis instruments for recording, processing and evaluating vehicle data as well as driving and rest times.  Having already launched the downloadkey for the vehicle unit and smart card reader for the office, Siemens VDO is now further expanding its range of tachograph related equipment.

The download terminal has been especially developed for large fleets offering the company the ability to transmit the data from their drivers' cards or the downloadkey to the head office around the clock. Exporting the information from the terminal to the operating system is really simple: all you need is a USB stick or a cable connection to the PC to make all the data available for analysis and archiving (using the Siemens VDO TIS-Web services).

Data handling becomes even easier when companies entrust their local workshops with downloading, archiving and analysis. Many of the more than 4000 Siemens VDO authorised workshops throughout Europe offer this service. The workshops are also competent contact addresses in case the vehicles cannot return to the company within the legally prescribed maximum 28-day download cycle. In such cases, a Siemens VDO distributor situated near the truck's current location can download the data and transmit it encoded to the fleet manager at home.

Analysing the tachograph disk from analogue tachographs on a PC and on the internet has been the norm in large fleets for a long time. Many smaller companies are now being confronted with electronic processing for the first time. Therefore Siemens VDO has developed TIS-Compact for owner drivers. The tachograph data can be saved and visualised just as simply as photos from a digital camera. Just like all solutions from Siemens VDO, TIS-Compact can also be integrated into a modular concept, so if someone wants to make a more thorough analysis over and above their archiving requirement, the program can be upgraded to TIS-Web or TIS-Office.  With this upgrade the data from analogue and digital tachographs can then be saved on an Internet server or on a computer in the fleet manager's office; they can also be evaluated.
