IAA 2005: Greater Safety, Lower Emissions and Improved Driver Information Siemens VDO presents the "Park Mate" parking assistance system

Schwalbach, Germany, August 04, 2005

Siemens VDO Automotive will present information about the future of automobile electronics and mechatronics at the 61st annual IAA International Motor Show in Frankfurt, Germany taking place Sept. 15 - 25. The company will take a closer look at advanced driver assistance systems, including the "Park Mate," which will simplify parking in the future. These innovative developments provide safer, more efficient cars that are easy to operate while assisting the driver in the face of continuously increasing traffic density.

Siemens VDO will demonstrate the "Park Mate," a component in a network of driver assistance systems the company currently is developing, where the technology automatically measures the row of parked cars and alerts the driver when its sensors detect an adequate space for parking. When maneuvering into the space, the electronics take control over the steering. "Park Mate" is one of the components of a network of driver assistance systems that Siemens VDO currently is developing for series production. It will actively alert drivers to potential hazards and help unburden them from routine tasks. As a driver assistance systems supplier, the company sees the comfortable interaction between driver and system as a key development priority alongside the function of electronic recognition and evaluation of the driver's surroundings. After all, it is the human-machine interface that will ultimately decide whether future driver assistance systems become accepted by consumers.

Also during the IAA Motor Show, Siemens VDO will demonstrate its expertise in the cockpit area and present various concepts for decreasing fuel consumption and reducing emissions.
